subaru parts nz : VW and Porsche have always been associated from the start, although theydid drift apart as time passed in spite of their common beginnings. AutoUnion got picked up by VW when it was insolvent and shakey, can't call thata bad thing. I'd have to applaud Ford's involvement with Jaguar. Ford brought some QCIsn't Bill just implementing strategies mandated by the 1990 CleanAir Act ...? I was under the impression that this pending legislation is above andbeyond the CAA of 1990, which was to slowly phase in changes along the way. According to authorities, this new stuff takes a considerable jump beyondthat, upping the ante. I think we have to remember the side of subaru, they won't want their carsto turn to shit, even if GM happens to have a 20% stake in them. They have agoal, an aim, to build good cars, performance in many cases (ie wrx, gtlegacy, rsk-b4) and awd. a lot of people forget that the engineers andmechanics of the subaru line are actually passionate about the entire carthey are making and I can't say I am going to start seeing subarus suddenlyturn to crap, on the other hand, combined r&d from gm and subaru probablywill improve prices and lower prod costs. and hell gm parts are strongerthan subaru parts when it comes to superficial chassis dynamics (suspension, engine and mechanical parts subaru is great - but the body is the weakestpart)

Gotta pass inspection, y'know !Anyone know of any good new/used parts shops that are nationwide viamail-order or the Internet? subaru parts nz : My wife and I are looking at the small SUVs. We particularly like theForester. The direct competition is the Honda CRV.The Forester seems better but it is quite a bit more expensive. But what worries us the most is what people say about Subaru.I think people are referring to how Subaru was in the past butI would like to get people's opinions on these:"Subarus rust out really quickly compared to Hondas and Toyotas""It is really hard getting parts and good service for Subarus""Subarus are not as reliable and can give you failures and expensive bills as the cars get older (esp. with complex AWD system)""The resale values of Subarus are much lower than Honda and Toyota cars"Opinions? Are any of these still true?Anybody own a Forester and had trouble with it?From: ()Subject: Re: Subaru quality, rust, service and parts - improved or still problems? Newsgroups: Date: 1998/09/30 In article "Alan Walford" wrote:I own a Subaru, and a Honda. Both are great and reliable. This is myfirst Subaru an here are my impressions. Newer Subarus cannot be comparedto older ones. I don't expect the rusting problem, it has not been hardto get parts, although I only have 32,000 miles on a '97 Outback, but Iknow my dealer is well stocked and gets part deliveries from Subaru everyThursday. They are every bit as reliable as the Hondas and Toyotas, wecan thank all the Japanese for their auto expertise. subaru parts nz : As far as parts being more expensive, have you ever priced Honda parts? Sure, they are better than replacement parts at the auto store, and youpay for that. My Honda (Accord) muffler cost over double what Midascharges, but that's what you pay for quality. Honda and Toyota have greatresale value, but I have found that since the introduction of the Outback,Subaru's have a better resale value.Even with this newsgroup, when I used to check it daily, there were 5-8messages, now there are 40-50. Still not the 300 that the Honda newsgroupgets a day, but the Toyota newsgroup gets about 100 a day. Most of theHonda ones are complaints. I have no complaints with my Honda.I've seen both the CRV and the Forester. The Forester is my choice, bigger engine, inside spare tire, and overall feel when driving. Yourchoice might be different for different reasons, but expect greatreliability out of both vehicles, I know I would.Alan Walford wrote:I have a '90 Legacy LS wagon with 156,000 miles. It is the best car Ihave ever owned. I routinely drive to the boonies of Michigan's UP andhave never been stranded, get good mileage and have done little morethan regular maintanence.I checked out an Accord back in '90 and it wasseveral grand more-its current value is only about $1000 more. subaru parts nz : Used to be true, up until ~1990 (except for Toyota trucks, which rusted sittingon the dock!). Now Subaru uses two-sided galvanized metal, more in the Legacythan the Forester, but still something like 70%.Certain parts are hard to get - there's little demand for some stuff anddealers don't keep it in stock. There's definitely less Subarus around, soless demand for parts. Good service? You take your chances, same as withHonda and Toyota (I could tell you stories about my local Toy dealer that'dcurdle your blood). Not true - I have 160k miles on my '89 Subaru (which, sadly, is rusting -old style construction) and the only parts that have needed work are theturbo (not used in newer models) and normal stuff that'd go on any car - waterpump, exhaust (after 150k miles!), oil pump finally went. The AWD, esp. on the 5-speeds, is totally bulletproof. Autos have some more potential forproblems (I'm having one now, for the first time in 250k total Subaru miles),but it's more like getting a transmission rebuild than anything else.
