subaru legacy : I believe they only offer a 2.5L in the Automatic because it provides for smoother shifting. My sister has basically the same car as you (sans ABS) but with approx. 145,000 miles on the clock. So far the car has needed nothing in the way of repairs (except a loose battery connection and new fuse), despite her admittedly hard driving in Connecticut/NYC. Her experience, as well as those of others we know with Legacys, served as encouragement for our decision to purchase a '96 GT wagon. Although I hate all the stress in a new car purchasing experience (mostly financial, not so much the confrontation of haggling), I do enjoy doing the tons of research, etc. that goes into making the decision. Sure, we've made some mistakes ('95 VW Passat GLX - due mostly to its appropriateness for our situation + its bugginess and bad local dealers), but I *definitely* feel good about our decision to go for the Subaru!Excerpts from netnews.rec.autos.misc: 12-Sep-95 Re: Subaru Legacy, anyopin.. by Steve I don't know which thread you were responding to, but here is the postthat *I* was responding to:
subaru legacy : Excerpts from netnews.rec.autos.misc: 11-Sep-95 Re: Subaru Legacy, anyopin.. by Steven Excerpts from netnews.rec.autos.misc: 12-Sep-95 Re: Subaru Legacy, anyopin.. by Steve You are correct, but you're overlooking that we WERE talking about AWD. Well, Steve seemed to be suggesting that the Subaru was worthless unlessyou wanted AWD--I disagree with that. The AWD is very important to me,and it comes standard with the model I bought; but there are otherthings I like about the car as well. It has *tons* of leg and shoulderroom. It comes in a wagon (which I suppose most models do). It's a verywell-designed ergonomic car, in my opinion. And the reliability ofSubarus have been very good in recent years. I just spent the lasthalf-year checking out various models.I'm beginning to wonder if Steven Parker is related to Lloyd Parker....Anyway, as I have been reading through this and similar threads dealingwith the Subaru Legacy I kept thinking "haven't these folks read anythingabout these cars, let alone driven one?" A fairly recent Car&Driver testof a '95 Legacy Outback wagon contained an anecdote along the lines of"Subaru's flat sales can't be related to their cars" -- which I agreewith. subaru legacy : Fords, Chryslers, GM cars, Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans are allextremely well promoted. Subaru doesn't seem to make the effort necessary to promote their products in the U.S. market and adequatelyraise consumer awareness. And let's face it, marketing goes a long waytoward getting the average consumer to even consider a particular car. My guess is that only a tiny sliver of the total pie of car shoppers consult enthusiast mags -- or even Consumer Reports. What's my motivation for responding? We just bought one and I can't help but evangelize a bit about them! We could have chosen any car in the $20-25K range, but we needed a safe, reliable wagon. We wanted AWD, too. I'm not going to even begin to defend that preference, mostly because I like it and I don't care if anyone doesn't! So, we purchased a '96 Legacy 2.5GT Wagon. And as one who is accustomed to fairly decent sports sedans (Maxima SE, VW Passat) I am *very* impressed with this Subaru. Sure, I *loved* the sixes in the Nissan and VW, but just anysix is not enough to choose over a smooth flat four. subaru legacy : € Legacy L Sedan€ White ext/blue int.; 4-door€ Immaculate condition; runs like new; new tires€ AT, AC, Pwr locks, Pwr windows; front-wheel drive€ AM/FM/Cass, Pwr steer, tilt, cruise€ One owner (non-smoker, no kids) € Well maintained - regular oil changes, etc.BTW, I've loved this car so much that I'm buying another Subaru!Hi! I work for an internet service. So that makes me an expert onposting. I am posting a for sale advertisement for my old car on allthese newsgroups because I don't mind taking all of your time to sell ajunk car of a different type to all of you non-Subaru owners. Truth is,you'd all be better off driving an old Subaru than a new whatever youhave.€ Legacy L Sedan€ White ext/blue int.; 4-door€ Immaculate condition; runs like new; new tires€ AT, AC, Pwr locks, Pwr windows; front-wheel drive€ AM/FM/Cass, Pwr steer, tilt, cruise€ One owner (non-smoker, no kids) € Well maintained - regular oil changes, etc.BTW, I've loved this car so much that I'm buying another Subaru! Andall of YOU should have a Subaru too, that is why I am posting here. Youshould start by buying my Subaru. Then when you are ready for a newerone, you can buy my new one. By then, I'll be ready to buy another oneand I'll be back to post this advertisement again. subaru legacy : I am posting this a few times just to make sure that you'll see itincase your server had expired my ad before you got a chance to read itlast time I posted. Also, I like to cross post when I sell a non-(this newsgroup) carbecause I want everyone in all of the groups listed above to hear whatyou have to say, when you tell me that you think your car is better thanmy old Subaru. Because, everyone knows that even a *used* Subaru isbetter than your (this newsgroup's) car.Just think, if you hit reply to tell me that you think your (forexample) Isuzu(your brand here) is good enough to justify not buying myused Subaru, everyone at all the newsgroups listed on the top of thisposting will get a chance to see how stupid you are in not accepting thefact that my used Subaru is better than any (your brand here) Isuzu. Isn't that great? The whole world will know if you do such a dumb thing, so you had betterbuy my Subaru and do it right away before all the others here try to buyit first.
