subaru cars : The issue with the H6 was that they had to keep it small enough to fitinto the engine bay of their existing cars. The length, in particular, wasan issue. So the current H6 doesn't really have a lot of "grow-room" --you can't bore it out to, say, 4.2 liters like Chevy's new SUV 6 cylinder, because the cylinders are packed too close together, and you can't strokeit to get more torque because that would make the engine too wide to fitinto the engine bay. The current 3.0 liter H6 actually isn't a bad engine, you just have to wind it up a bit to hit its power band, and Americans aren'tused to doing that with a 6 cylinder engine. But if you treat it right,it does a pretty good job of motivating the Sube down the road. I don't see where Subaru has the resources to build an all-new engineunique to an all-new vehicle. Because it fits in all of Subaru's cars, the 3.0L H6 is probably "it" for the foreseeable future. Subaru couldperhaps turbocharge it or supercharge it for a larger SUV, but thathas its own issues (actually, they'd pretty much have to superchargeit, because Americans want their torque when they press on the gaspedal, not a couple of seconds later after the turbo has had a chanceto wind up). Furthermore, it is unclear whether Subaru could build alarger "real" SUV that way that was actually appealing to the "real"SUV crowd, which wants big beefy engines, a high seating position, and"traditional" chunky SUV proportions (rather than the low-slungnose-heavy look dictated by Subaru's low-slung H6 design, that shovesthe entire engine low and in front of the front axle due to the designof the integrated transmission/transaxle and the need to jam it allunder a fairly low-slung Legacy hood).

subaru cars : I am going to pick up my new 2001 Forester in a few days. I've readabout the tire pressure but I was wondering what else I should checkfor.Do a thorough walk around of the car when you pick it up. If you driveit off the lot and only later notice a ding or other cosmetic blemish itmay be hard to "prove" it was there when you picked up the car. Five orten minutes spent at the time of pick up might save you alot of time(and money) later. Here are little horrors that I discovered when I picked up my 2000 Forester.1) Steering Wheel center position was rotated 45° too far clockwise andthe front end alignment was waaay off (must have been bounced aroundpretty good on its trip from Japan)2) Overinflated tires3) Radio speakers on the left kept cutting out when I hit a bump4) The unlock button would not unlock all doors, just the driver's door.5) Huge scratch on rear bumper was touched up with spray paint that wasnot even close to the right colour. Now that I have everything corrected, it's a damn nice car. But why can'tdealers take a bit more time preparing the car in the first place? They'dsave more time and money in the long run; as well as customer loyalty ifthey did.

subaru cars : I picked up my 2001 Forester yesterday. The paint does not seem tohave any kind of sealer on it. My '93 Legacy had a Teflon coating onit when new.I just got mine yesterday. Drove it for 125 miles with no problem. Then forno apparent reason the check engine light went on and stays on. Gas cap ison tight per the manual's instructions. Possible defective O2 sensor or ECMpart? Anyone ever have this problem and any suggestions?A. KlymanI've just passed 3,000 miles on my new 2002 Forester L, gotten the 3Koil change and inspection, and I've not seen this problem. My suggestion is to hit your dealer with it, since you should still bewell within warranty.Lucky the lights on steady! Take it to the dealer for a readout quick!Update: took it into dealer. Service manager offered to "clear the errorreading" and have me drive the car around awhile to see if it happenedagain. I told her that since my wife was coming to pick me up anyway, whynot keep the car for the day and check it out. Bottom line: received callfrom dealer later in the morning telling me that a hose had come loose, fromthe emissions canister, and was the reason for the check engine light comingon. Have driven it since then - so far, so good..."Tim" wrote in message...

subaru cars : A complete newly designed Forester will be launched next month in Japan. Itlooks more or less like a Lexus RX300.Yes. And it will differ from the previous in many ways.I'm just reading a german car mag.(auto motor sport) and there is anarticle about the new one in it, incl. 2 drawings. To sum it up: the where two possibilities for it.Either going more Offroad with a pointy Sport-Utility Look to put upwith Lexus RX 300 and Jeep Cherokee(Liberty). This concept was mostfavored for the American Market. But they will keep the Crossover-Concept of the AWD Station-Wagon,because the segment is growing more than the classic Offroad-Segment.The Forester will feature significant more room in the inside, thanthe actual model and the interior will be way more atractive. New inthe engine-compartment will be the H-6 from the Legacy as aalternative to the H-4.Also in the article there is some critics about Subaru. On the Tokio Motor Show the Japanese Car Manufactures(Toyota, MazdaMitsubishi and Nissan) demonstrated new time for their cars, with newemotions in styling and finish, also trying to polish up thecompany-images. But not Subaru. The Subaru cars apear stylewise from the early 90's and interiorwisefrom the middle 80's. At Frankfurt's IAA the new Subaru-PresidentTakeshi Tanaka saw that and the first consequence was, to exchange thechief of design. But that is not the solution to all problems.Subaru is fixated to AllWheelDrive and Boxerengines and is known asslow and backwards. Also known as introverted and isolated.Synergy-effects with General Motors, whichs owns a part of Subaru, cannot be found due to the highly technical specialisation. The only cooperation so far even brought out trouble for GM-daughterOpel. The in Thailand Opel Zafira produced, is sold in Japan as aSubaru Traviq, but Opel is now mad, because Subaru sells the Modell€1000 cheaper and kills Opels Japan-Business.Since the small Subaru Justy, only model with inline engine, is inreal a rebadged Suzuki Swift, there are only 3 "real" Subaru Linesbuilding on 2 different platforms: Impreza, Forester andLegacy/Outback.Since the Impreza is poorly located in size, price and motorizationbetween compact-class and lower middle class, so it sits between allchairs on most of the markets. All hope relies on the all-newLegacy/Outback(late 2003) and to a new small- and compactclassplatform brought into development at the end of 2001 for around € 1Billion. Ready in 2005 it will feature AWD and boxerengines(for thefirst time a diesel-engine).

subaru cars : Can anyone tell me what the 6 stars (1 large, 5 small) on the Subarubadge/emblem/logo are meant to represent?---Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.Checked by AVG anti-virus system ().Version: 6.0.449 / Virus Database: 251 - Release Date: 27/01/03Subarus' symbol represents the constellation Pleades. Subaru in theJapanese language means Pleades. The seven stars in the constation representthe parent company (large star) and the smaller stars represent each of thesmarller companies within the FUGI Heavy industries group. Rd"Lars Cockswell" wrote in message...The six stars (not seven) in the Subaru logo are inspired by the starconstellation the Pleiades, and they also symbolize the six differentcompanies that originally established FHI (Fuji Heavy Industries Limited) in1953. The FHI group produces the Subaru cars. Subaru produces around 600.000cars each year, and they are sold in around 120 different countriesworldwide. FHI also produces buses, aeroplanes and much more. The Subarucars therefore have a background in Japanese aviation industry. 30thanniversary Subaru 1953-2003.My source for this info: a leaflet (brochure) from Subaru Norway.
