Toronado and Eldorodo were basically the same cars, butRiv's were still a RWD. I believe it was 79 when they ruined them and builtthem on the same platform as the Toro & Eldo-- Iron Hunter Toronados were FWD right from the beginning in '66, Eldos went FWD in'67. I had a '74 eldo, 500 cid, about 6 mpg when I sold it. That wasright at the peak of the Gulf war, took $63 (in Toronto) for its lastfill-up! That was one of the worst years for mileage with the air injector pumpand MILES of vacuum hoses to run all the gadgets; vacuum leaks arelikely to be your biggest problem. As far as mechanicals went, it waspretty easy to work on. You just need some really big hammers when itcomes time to separate the ball joints.

oldsmobile toronado : 119,000 milespower locks/windows/steering/brakescruise controlClarion cassette deck/stereo + 4 speakers8-way power driver's seatreally cool things:car was essentially rebuilt at 94,000 miles. What I did:* Engine rebuilt, new rings, valve springs and (hydraulic) lifters, cam (high lift, long duration), high-flow oil pump, cross-drilled crankshaft for maximum oil penetration. Great high-performance engine that gets decent gas milage. I did this myself, and did it right, since after 20k miles it's still running great.* New brakes (i.e. not just the pads, but the whole brake assemblies on all four wheels) and new brake lines from the master cylinder back.Replaced rear wheel bearings on both sides within the lastyear.Oil changed religiously every 3k miles, TufOil added atevery change.New CV joints on both sides with less than 5k miles on them,work done at Les Schwab.New shocks at around 102k miles, I don't remember the brandbut got 'em from Summit Racing.Rear springs have airbags installed, so you can vary theride and load handling with an air pump.
