The one with thestory about "stock block" engines. Most manufactures don't see direct product identification as a worthwhile goal in a series like IndyCar.They see it as a technology showcase. They're marketing their entire company on a world-wide basis, not a particular product that may onlybe sold here in the US. It's also a disadvantage, but I'll get to that later. First let me pointout that Honda, Toyota, Mercedes and Ford all seem to be in la-la land with us. From my 20 years as a motorsports fan, my impression is that any one of those four companies has more motorsports marketing savy thanOldsmobile and Nissan combined.Fans prefer Indy? I think it's more likely that most of the real fans tuned into the US 500 (giving it the highest cable rating ever for an Indy car event) while the "casual fans" didn't know any better and stayedwith the IRL 500. Will the IRL 500 drop another 20% in ratings now that the casual fans know that the Indy 500 is only a shadow of it's former self?
