While we would all love tothink that this is due to nothing more than the appeal of the 2000Alero, we suspect there may be more to this phenomenon. We've noticed atrend among the customers - apparently many bring homemade tapes or CDswith them to play during the drive, ostensibly to (as one customer putit) "peep out the most important part of the car, man." Tie-dye seemsto be common among the younger customers, as does hemp jewelry andeccentric hair-dos. One of the more puzzling aspects is that they allseem to fervently enjoy fish, though we've seen none consumed on-site.However, not all appear alike and they seem to span a very wide agegroup, from middle-aged to early teens. In fact, many dealers have toturn away teenagers who don't meet our age requirement. The teensmaintain that they should be able to "test-sit" in the Alero and "chillwith some tunes," and maintain that this entitles them to the giftcertificate that is part of our Alero promotion, as you know.
oldsmobile dealers : The most bizarre circumstances we have learned of have no explanation.Several dealers and employees were approached by said customers andquestioned regarding "squid" and "flax." The customers often mentionedtrading "good squid" for "good flax" or vice versa. The mention ofsquid may somehow be related to the mentions of fish; the implicationshave yet to be ascertained. When the customers are told that thedealers possess neither squid nor flax, they appear brieflydisappointed but quickly follow up with questions regarding the CD-NOWgift certificate.This brings us to the unifying factor in this trend - almost allcustomers asking to test-drive the Alero inevitably mention the CD-NOWwebsite gift certificate. Many have mentioned the city of Hampton forsome reason. Several were heard to mutter about ghost stories, jams(traffic jams, we assume; they seem to be indifferent about jelly), thestate of Florida, and enjoying themselves. Again, these have left ourtop people completely puzzled.Be aware: this trend shows no sign of slowing. While this willundoubtably reflect positive Alero sales, we encourage dealers toremain vigilant in discovering the source of this strange phenomenon.
oldsmobile dealers : GM has decided to phase out their Oldsmobile line of vehicles, it was on thenew tonight an flat blew me away... I saw that too, it's been a long time coming. I remember hearing about 20years ago that Oldsmobile and Pontiac had been asked by GM to justify theircontinued existance. I guess you know that Daimler-Chrysler finally killed offPlymouth as well? It's a very sad thing. At one time or another, there've beenover 3,500 car manufacturers in the U.S. alone. Now, we're down to just a few.They've destroyed the vehicles' individuality with their "badge engineering"and then killed them. They are moving the Prowler into the Dodge line.IMO, Olds and Buick both need to die off...just how many copies of the same carcan you sell????the badges lost their identity when drivetrains became 'corporate'....the government forced this on them...too many/much DOT-EPA regs to bothertesting all the possible combinations...
