oldsmobile bravada : hello all:i have a 1997 oldsmobile bravada with only 39,045 miles. i am the 2ndowner, puchased from my dad in june, 1999 with 22,000 miles.in may of 2002, the battery connection (positive terminal) went badand the truck wouldn't start. i noticed that the coolant resevoir wasbone dry. no indicator lights or anything had come on at all. in anycase, i took the truck in the next day and the service manager told methat it needed a new intake gasket for approx. $350. i thought thiswas odd since at that time it only had 36,000 miles. the servicemanager agreed and told me that this was a common problem withbravadas. i paid the $350. shortly thereafter, the idle on the truckstarted fluctuating when i was at stop lights between 500 and 700 rpm.i thought maybe they had tweaked something when the intake was putback together, but hadn't had time to take it back in. this weekend i drove about 300 mile round trip to chicago and on theway up to chicago, i heard a rattle from the engine. got worse on theway back. took it in today and they tell me i have a bad rod bearingand that i will need a new engine for $4,800. i say, that seems oddfor a truck with only 39,000 miles. the dealer tells me, too bad, callGM. i call GM, they say, too bad, we won't help you even though itonly has 39,000 miles. i can't believe they won't cover an engine thatis only 3,000 miles out of warranty! even though it is 5 years old, itshouldn't have a bad rod bearing. ugh.
