new subaru impreza : NEW YORK, April 8 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdgeCorporation -- Subaru of America, Inc. today revealedthe exciting new 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS at the NewYork International Auto Show. To capture the successSubaru has enjoyed in the FIA World RallyChampionship, the 1999 Impreza 2.5 RS now features anaggressive rally inspired front-end treatment, an excitingnew boxer engine and new interior treatments toenhance its performance image. "Subaru is the world champion in the highly competitiveinternational WRC series with an Impreza-basedvehicle," according to George Muller, president andchief operating officer of Subaru of America, Inc. "Notonly are we the current champion in the WRC but wehave been champions for the last three years in a row. This is a remarkable accomplishment for a company oursize. "While driving performance may be a newer story forSubaru, its roots come from the same engineering thathas allowed us to create products like the Outback andForester, car-based utility vehicles, which are redefiningthe traditional definition for sport utility vehicles,"continues Muller. The Subaru All-Wheel DrivingSystem features a compact boxer engine with alongitudinally mounted transaxle and a long stroke lowfriction suspension system. Combined, the engine andtransmission have a much lower mass than thecompetition and, therefore, a lower polar moment ofinertia. In other words, the Impreza is far more nimbleand easier to drive than its direct competition in theWRC.
new subaru impreza : The 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS features new frontbumper and fog lamps that mirror those found on therally car and a new multi-reflector headlight system. These are the most obvious changes when first seeingthe car. But in true-to-Subaru form other changesbecome more evident upon closer examination. Oneneed only look at the large tailpipe to get a hint. That's great, but will the Impreza sedan finally get ABS for 1999?In article Midas Gold wrote:I don't know about the ABS, but I know that Subaru is dropping the Sedan, maybe even next year, if not then after the redesign. Why couldn't theyturbocharge it. I know it's wishful thinking. Their touting the new SOHCengine, but who cares...Sigh...I'll keep on waiting.-----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- Now offering spam-free web-based newsreadingIf only they'd bring the 2.0, 2 stage twin turbo engine here...*sigh* OurLegacy 2.5 GT looks exactly like the Japanese version Legacy RS, cept' ofcourse it would blow my Legacy to bits. *grumble*grumble*grumble* new subaru impreza : --************************************** *********************** Erwin S. I made the mistake ofthinking the motors were the same between the two, but after somebody onthe WRX list questioned me about it, I checked. The sequential twin-turbo motor in the Legacy's has better initial torque, but a flat spot around where the 2nd larger turbo kicks in. A largercat-back muffler cures this problem, though. The WRX's single turboactually has a longer, flatter mid-range torque plateau, from about3000-5400rpm. Having driven the Forester 2.5 in the states (rental), I would say thatit's not a bad engine in it's own right. Nowhere near the fun factor ofthe 2.0-litre twin turbo, but it should have adequate power in it's stockform to be fun in the sedan, especially given that it's set up more forthe twisties than straight line performance, in that it's hard to getwheelspin even with the twin-turbo. new subaru impreza : sigh. I wish my server hadn't dropped the rec.autos.subaru groupBut the WRC car has a turbo 2 litre engine and therefore nothing incommon with this SOHC 2.5L RS model.Hey, guys... don't take it out on me - all I did was crosspost what Ithought was an interesting press release. I want that turbo motor asmuch as any of you...On a better note, though , I did get a *very* solid rumor that Subaru willbegin importing performance parts (probably ProDrive, not STi) into theStates to be sold through their regular parts departments. This I got froma friend in the Parts department, who got it from their rep - who's in theprocess of ordering some of the parts.--+--------------------+---------------- -----------------------------------++--- -----------------+---------------------- -----------------------------+Yep. Take a look at Subaru.com and they have a press release along thoselines.-----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- Now offering spam-free web-based newsreadingwhats the point? where's the WRX?? and where is GT-B and RS-B???On display at the NY Auto Show is a Subaru 2.5RSX (note the X) conceptcar which claims to be a testbed/prototype of Subaru performance mods.I would suggest if you want this kind of stuff, give Subaru lots offeedback and requests so they know the market is there. new subaru impreza : It would seem that this year's North American International Auto Show inDetroit, Michigan is centered on sport utility vehicles. The attentionto sports cars this year has been little, with one exception: Subaruintroduced the 2004 Impreza WRX line to North America, including theWorld Rally Championship-inspired WRX STi.The Impreza WRX has had very successful results in the North Americanmarket since it went on sale in 2001, and has become a popular carfor sports car enthusiasts due to its modest price tag and all-outperformance. Membership to the Sports Car Club of America is offered toWRX buyers. The restyled '04 WRX sports car keeps its powerful boxer turbo engineand all-wheel drive with new, more aggressive looks. Larger four-elementheadlights gives the car a more squared look, familiar with the Subaruname, replacing the rounded headlights from the past WRX models. The interior is also changed to reflect the more aggressive look with acenter mounted tachometer and sport bucket seats that could easily usea racing seat belt. Other features include new safety features, likepedals that brake away during a head-on collision to prevent againstfoot injuries. Overall, the redesign of the WRX makes it an even moreappealing and safe sports car that is still affordable for all.
