infiniti cars : Cheever, Scheckter lead in thrilling California Speedway debut.The Yamaha Indy 400 had a record number of 34 lead changes, and excitingside-by-side racing. Right in the mix of things were the Red Bull CheeverRacing Infiniti cars of Eddie Cheever Jr. and Tomas Scheckter.Starting from pole position, Cheever led a total of ten times for 33laps, often among a pack of cars separated by less than a second. In thelast stint of the race, he was racing back and forth for the lead withJaques Lazier when the engine broke on lap 191 of the 200-lap race.Also in the front pack was Tomas Scheckter who started third. Leading forthe first time in the Indy Racing League, Scheckter led five times for 28laps. He also turned the fastest lap of the race on lap 73 at 222.559mph. Scheckter's day ended on lap 164 when he slowed down for an apparentengine problem and was hit from behind by Hideki Noda."I had Jaques, and then I didn't, and then I did.
