acura rsx : I took two RSX's for test drives today. Both were the base model - one hada five speed stick - the other had the fice speed sport shifter.I liked how both cars handled. They cornered well and had excellentbrakes. Since I am over 50 and like a quiet car - I wanted to see whatkind of low end power the cars had. I was satisfied with the torquethrough the gears. But the RSX is still a Honda and really delivers above4000 rpm's.If I were buying it just for myself - I would probably take the fivespeed. But since my wife would drive it part time - I will probably settleon the sport shift. The sport shift is different. You can put it in driveand let it shift all 5 gears for you - or you can put it in manual modeand choose your gear. When you stop in manual mode it shifts to firstgear. There is a one inch high red number in the middle of the instrumentcluster that tells you what gear you are in. While you are driving - yousimply press or slap the shifter forward and it goes up a gear. Todownshift you simple pull or pop the shifter back toward you - the rednumber changes and the gear drops. When you stop - it goes right back tofirst. It might seem hokey to you - but I liked it. I currently have a CRVand on some hills I would prefer to choose my gear instead of letting thetranny search for me. Being able to choose third or fourth on a hill - andhaving that big red number let you know your gear - is a plus. No - it isnot for street racers - but I think I would use it sometimes. Maybe thenovelty would wear off.
acura rsx : The window sticker says the cars is made of 95% Japanese parts.The climate control worked well. It is not digital - you turn a dial toeither 68 - 70 - 72 -74. The AC cycles to keep the temperature at thatlevel. The sunroof is nice because the glass goes up and out and back. Thisprevents you from losing headroom inside the car because of the sunroofgoing into the roof cavity. I liked that a lot because in a Honda Civic EX- you lose 2 inchs of headroom for the sunroof. By the way - the other carI am considering is a Civic EX.The wheels and tires were nice - Michelin ZVX - Honda 5 spoke wheels. Thewheels give you a really nice view of the four disk brakes.Both cars I drove has the standard cloth interior. It was fine. I amdeciding whether to pay an extra $1000 and get leather.The manual shift model I drove was the light silver, the sport shiftermodel was dark red or maroon. I am not real particular about the color.Wife said I could choose the color if she could choose the shifter. Whatis wrong with this picture? :-)

acura rsx : I just came back from my Honda dealer. I was interested in a Civic EXwhich stickered out at $18,000. Next door was an Acura dealer. My wife and I stumbled on an Acura RSX 2002- that stickered out at $22,300. Needless to say - it is an impressivepackage.I know there are a lot of experts on this newsgroup. We would like yourhelp. We have owned Hondas for 30 years now - starting out with a Honda600 2 cylinder back in 1972. We really like the Civic. What are some ofthe things about this Acura RSX that would make us not like it compared toa Civic EX. My wife and I are about 50 years old. The car would be used mostly forshort trips - shopping and around town. We have a motor home for longtrips.If you like going to the grocery store fast, then buy the RSX. If youhave a hate relationship with the gas station, get the Civic. If youwant really good build quality, you will probably go with the RSX(japanese built). If you want 4 doors, go with the Civic.Actually, the build quality goes to the Civic as well. This is the firstyear of the RSX and like all first model year cars, there will be problems.Unlikely they will be major, but the bottom line is that the build qualityof the current Civic is likely to be better - if not considerably better.

(his wife got the civic)The civic is nosier, noticiable lack of power, and the sound insulation(what insulation? :) is really terrible compares to the camry...while thegas mileage is not much better than the camry.his next car will be a toyota again....(the only reason he switch is becauseI have a reliable 240k honda that still looks pretty good.)of course, he complains about the suspension noise (never fixed by the factory), the PCM, and the radio bugs...The Camry should NOT be compared to a Civic. Apple ... orange. The Camryis at the Accord level. He should compare the Civic to a Corolla. And I'llbet the Civic LX is an automatic.
