acura integra gsr : The 3-Door integra has a hatchback which is nice if this is your onlycar. Nothing worse than having to borrow a friends car to haul around stuff because you can't get it into your trunk.The integra has had few changes since the 94 design. Of course, if itain't broke....Following are only my opinions and comparison as an owner of bothcars. I've tried the BMW 318ti, VW GTI VR6 and Jetta GLX, MitsuEclipse, Acura 3.0CL (great value by the way), and Maxima SE...buthaving both of the following brings me lots of smiles :)))1994 Integra GSR (red):- Noisier due to less sound proofing material behind the firewall.- Engine sounds are things of beauty...love the revs to redline witheach gear.- Not as much torque, so you need to work the revs quite a bit on thehigh end.- More leg room for the back seats, but less head room.- Rear vision takes some getting used to due to sloping shape of thecar.- Handling is great, but leans a bit more in corners...stock MichelinXGT's have softer sidewalls so the car rolls a little bit, stickspretty well (terrible in the snow). Rear end stays tucked in, even ifyou hit a bump in mid-corner, and lift throttle oversteer is subtle.- Praticality that comes with a hatchback, which I gave up when I built a custom trunk with 10" subwoofers and 4 Alpine amps.- Steering feel is lighter, but not as quick.- Overall, a light nimble car that will surprise many othercars/drivers if they want to test your patience...lots of fun andmakes me feel young!

acura integra gsr : 1997 Prelude (eucalyptus green) Sportshift:- Much quieter due to new design and sound proofing. Motor Trend wasquoted as saying "as quiet cruising at freeway speeds as a LexusLS400".- Engine sounds are a bit throatier and running up redline in eachgear with the SportShift is not as much work...20 more hp's and moretorque.- Rear head room is better, yet leg room is terrible...not muchimprovement from the previous generation here.- Handling is a charm, sure footedness I'd say. The car remainsnoticably flatter around corners at speed. I've taken clover leaframps at more than 70mph, and it feels very capable...lift throttleoversteer is very forgiving and controllable. In general it feelsmore confident in cornering capabilities.- Larger trunk than previous generation, but still not as pratical asa hatchback.- Steering is more to my taste and not over powered. It does tend toI just bought a '97 GSR sedan a month ago, and I love it. But the car I really wanted was a '97 base Prelude. It feels quicker than the GSR, and the engine sounds incredible, the exhaust I should say. It's much like the GSR engine, just with more torque and sounds better. It's a great cruiser on the highway, whereas the GSR is a little noisy, more than an LS or RS, cause of the tires and shorter gearing. It's running at 4000 rmp at 80 mph. I like the short gearing for better pickup, but it's definitely louder on the road. The Prelude was also only about $1000 more, cause they discount heavily. Why did I buy the Integra? Cause I couldn't comfortably fit in the Prelude - gave me stiff shoulders after 10 minutes (I'm 6'2") even after spending 5 minutes adjusting the seating position. One more inch of headroom and I'd bought it. Interior is also nicer than GSR, which is basically a Civic interior. Still nice, but Prelude's interior is better. If you're less than 6'2", I can't see any reason to buy the GSR over the Prelude unless you don't like the styling or want a lighter car for aftermarket upgrades. But I love my GSR to death anyway.

In case you hadn't figured it out...I'm an Integra owner...You're talking about base Prelude and not the one with the tractioncontrol, right? W/ the traction i think you're talking about a couplegrand of price differential...

acura integra gsr : Tony, I agree with your overview of both cars. I looked at both and sinceperformace was my number one priority, I went with the Prelude SH. I usethe car as a daily business driver and on weekends, I run in autocrosses. Yesterday I ran in a local autocross event. There were GS-R's in myclass. It wasn't even close and this was only the third time I've driventhis car in an event. The Prelude won by a LARGE margin. A fellow driverwho has a modified Civic did a run in my car and his comments were that itwas the "sweetest" and easiest driving car he has ever seen. He feltcomfortable immediatly and it was like "driving on rails". His time forhis run in my car with me in it was equal to his best run of the day inhis car.It seems at least one magazine commented that the ATTS was unnecessary.Has anyone autocrossed with a base Prelude for comparison?(Although, I much prefer the spoiler and wheels of the SH model!)From: ()Subject: Re: 97 Prelude or 97 Acura Integra GSR..
