acura cl : I am afraid your estimates are way off! The 2.2CL will start at approx$22K. And the 6 cyl version (available next Fall) is expected to be $28K.And it will use neither the Legend's nor the Accord's V6, but a new 3 literV6 built in the U.S.---------------------------------------- --------------------------------Wen Cebuhar Queen's University, Kingston, Canada---------------------------------- --------------------------------------In article (Wen Cebuhar) writes: Estimates, eh? Noooo. Like I said earlier it's what the *rep* told me.The 6 cylinder prices were estimates though. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++-Rod 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo 1995 BMW M3 (Luxury) UseNet Automotive Survey: It would appear that the CL is built off the new Prelude platform.-- Steven Parker THE CAR DUDE/ THE CAR NUTTribune TV stations across America710/TALK KMPC radio Los AngelesYour Acura 'representaitve' is, not surprisingly for a car salesperson, wrong. The CL is built mainly off the Honda Prelude platform and if it replaces ANYTHING, it would be the Legend coupes...but the CL are quite a bit less costly and in a different leagfue altogether.-- Steven Parker THE CAR DUDE/ THE CAR NUTTribune TV stations across America710/TALK KMPC radio Los Angeles

acura cl : I would like to have poll betweens these two cars, since many have beendebating which one they prefer. Compare the models depending on the engine,if you are referring to the V-6 Accord Coupes than compare it to the Acura3.0CL. And compare the 4 cylinder Accord Coupes to the the 4 cylinderCLs(2.3CL). Please specify and justify your position (why you like one overthe other). Also indicate which car you have or if you don't have either, please state this(if you want say which car you own anyway ie. Civic,Prelude whatever). One vote from me for the 98 Accord Coupe, I think it looks better and isvirtually the same car with the same features, with a cheaper price tag.The only thing going for the CL would be the Acura nameplate, althoughpersonally I feel that Acura has failed as a luxury group, when you see whatthe guys at Lexus are doing. So I would almost much rather have the Hondanameplate, although the Acura nameplate brings more prestige.I prefer the Acura 2.3 CL over the Honda Accord I4 and as such purchased one. Here's why:

acura cl : 1. more distinctive styling (let's face it; you can't drive a mile w/oseeing an Accord) 2. leather, cd player, auto clim control, power driver seat, wheel mountedaudio controls, 4-wheel disc brakes, keyless entry, 16 inch machine finishedalloys, 4-year 50k warranty etc etc... this car is a bargain for the price 3. a quieter ride due to more sound-proofing materialThe 2.3 CL premium 5-speed sticker is $23,745, the Accord EX is $22,300w/leather. I think the extra $1000+ bucks is well worth it, hell the longerwarranty in itself could justify this. Further, since Accords are selling sowell, you may end up paying sticker for one, whereas the CL can be bargained WAYdown because of slow sales (I paid $22,000 with spoiler and tint; invoice was$21,543)Ugly taillights on the CL? To be honest, when I first saw this car when indebuted in '96 I laughed! The car's styling back then was ahead of its timewith those funky taillights but has now grown on me and I like it.Oh one other point, the Accord 4 uses the 2.2 L, 145 hp VTEC, the 2.3 CL has 5 morehorsepower? Correct me if I'm wrong.

acura cl : Yep, you're wrong. Both the CL and the new Accord went to theincreased displacement 2.3l engine in '98.--Mike Kohlbrenner<kohlbren (-a t-) an dot hp dot com> sorry!CL 4 or 6 is a bargain and a distinctive one at that. As pointed out below, youwont see yourself driving in the other direction 5 times a day. I would think theywill hold resale better due to the relative scarcity of them. The new Honda Accord Coupe is a very nice car, but I must vote for the Acura2.3 CL.For one thing, the new Accord Coupe is built on a new platform thatincorporates improvements that were already included in the CL. Since many ofthe improvements in the new platform are already in the CL, it is not asnecessary to rush to the new platform and buy the 1998 Accord coupe.Due to the law of supply and demand, a buyer has more flexibility innegotiating the price of an Acura CL than an Accord coupe. I got my 1998Acura 2.3 CL automatic for about $21,000 (including tax, tag, and title),which is not much more than the Accord coupe. In fact, when I bought my carlast March, most Honda dealers in my area had a backlog of Accords whichwould have put me on the waiting list. There were a couple of Acura dealers,in the other hand, that had exactly the car I wanted. Even though there is abig difference in the MSRP's of the two cars, the "real" price difference issmall, especially considering the features.

acura cl : Speaking of features, the CL has more standard features than the Accordcoupe. For example, every CL has a CD player, anti-lock brakes, and an alarmsystem. You must have an Accord EX coupe to have those features. Every CLhas 16 inch wheels. You must have a V6 Accord coupe to get the 16 inchwheels. Every CL has a leather-wrapped steering wheel. You must either getthe entire leather package to get a leather-wrapped wheel on an Accord or youmust buy and install the wrap yourself. Every CL has Automatic ClimateControl. You must buy the V6 with leather to get Automatic Climate Controlwith an Accord. Every CL has audio controls on the steering wheel. Only theV6 Accord with leather has steering wheel audio controls. Separately, thesemight seem like minor features. However, the features accumulate. If youconsider the extra standard features of the CL, you see you get more stufffor your money. Also, the Acura CL has a longer warranty than the Accord. The Acura warrantyis 4 years or 50,000 miles. The Honda warranty, on the other hand, is 3 yearsor 30,000 miles. This might be a minor item for some people, but I like thesecurity. Speaking of security, the CL comes with Acura Total Luxury Careincluding 24-hour roadside assistance benefits. If you have an Acura, youdon't need AAA.
