1985 oldsmobile calais : Wow! This is a tough one all right. The noise you're getting could becaused by a computer module, fuel injection system, or some other highenergy device in your vehicle.Also, it might help to know what type of vehicle you have. And, is the noisepresent only when the engine is running?I'm going to throw out a different solution to you that I've had work for meover the years.Wire the system the way you originally had it, with the noise.Using the REAR RCA cable going to the Autotek amp, unplug the RCA jacks justenough to break the outer ground shield connection. The trick is to keepthe center pin connected while the outer ring/shield is disconnected. Dothis on both left and right sides. Then test for the noise. (If it'simpossible to do this at the amp, then try it at the head unit.)If the noise goes away, then turn up the volume and see if it has affectedyour sound quality at all. If everything is okay, then use electrical tapeto isolate the shield from the jack and push in the cable as best you can.Another possible fix would be to try a "ground loop isolator" on the rearpreout line.

The car is a 1985 Oldsmobile Calais Supreme.P.S. I was playing around with the system last night, and noticed somethingnew. I had the system playing, and I pushed the button to roll my windowsup, and it was fine while they were going up, but when they reached the top,and if I held or touched the button when the windows were all the way up,the noise would go crazy. As soon as I release the button, it goes back tothe faint squealing noise.This happens with either the ignition in accessory position or the vehiclerunning, except it's a little harder to hear with the engine running becauseof the loudness of the engine.Did you try my original troubleshooting method? Did it cause any changes?What happens when you just disconnect the Autotek amp?It's possible that you have a bad RCA cable, or could it be getting pinchedsomewhere? It sounds like you're getting ground plane (vehicle chassis)noise injected directly into the signal path. You might also have a badsolder connection inside the Autotek amp.Does this happen with all sources? (cd/tape/fm/am)

ALSO I remember seeing that theantenna on my eclipse has a ground that connect to the chassis of theradio.. so in reality I could have multiple ground loops in my system..I just thought I should point out the antenna thing because I'm thinkingabout disconnecting it from the case and see what changes that makes..
